Movie Maniac added 1 item to Terror Blurbs! Part II (An Ever-Expanding List) list
Plot: Leaked footage of a top secret 18th Apollo mission to the moon unveils the appalling truth behind the events.
A particularly bland found footage offering that thoroughly fails to maintain immersion, credibility, or tension throughout. Some plot similarities might make you want to call it a poor man's Alien but that is giving it too much credit. Zero atmosphere and a laughable threat are just the cherry on this unimpressive heap. It's not even "so bad, it's good"...it's just there to be forgotten.

Movie Maniac added 1 item to Terror Blurbs! Part II (An Ever-Expanding List) list
Plot: A scientist obsessed with the nature of fear finds himself in a chain of events that prove his theory of a parasitic organism that feeds off of fright.
One of several William Castle productions that partially built themselves around an interactive gimmick to sell tickets, The Tingler predictably only stumbles when the moments requiring interactivity come up during home viewing. Up till then (silly science notwithstanding) it actually manages to be an entertaining sci-fi/horror piece eased along by some marital melodrama and well employed twists. Vincent Price, as always, is delight, the cast is strong, and the charm of the gimmicks (even when they can't be directly experience) still resonate enough to make one smile. It has all the markers of a cult classic and has earned that status for a good reason.

Movie Maniac added 1 item to Terror Blurbs! Part II (An Ever-Expanding List) list
Plot: A powerful sorcerer is dragged into a duplicitous power struggle by a couple of his occultic compatriots.
One of Roger Corman's many adaptations of Poe's work, The Raven uses the famous poem as a springboard for a fantastical plot about wizards vying for great power. Sounds dark but it's actually a light-hearted, humorous affair led by the charm and prowess of three horror heavies (Vincent Price, Boris Karloff, and Peter Lorre). In lesser hands the material might show how thin it truly is but with the three leads it's a delight to watch. Cheap? Sure. Charming? Very. Well worth it to see three legends play off of each other with tongues planted firmly in cheek. Bonus: Look out for an early Jack Nicholson role.
