Movie Maniac added 1 item to Terror Blurbs! Pt. 1 (An Ever-Expanding List) list
Plot: A troubled man tracks down the bizarre cult that killed the love of his life.
This psychedelic descent into what can only be called a living heavy metal cover is strikingly fresh. Making the most of its eclectic star (Nicolas Cage) and surrounding him with gorgeously (and grimly) conjured visual tapestries, "Mandy" feels like seeing a nightmare unfold through the fog of an acid trip. From demonic bikers that would feel right at home in a Clive Barker story to hallucinatory weirdness worthy of Hunter S. Thompson, Mandy is a candy-colored confection filled with razor blades.

Movie Maniac added 1 item to Terror Blurbs! Pt. 1 (An Ever-Expanding List) list
Plot: A woman investigating her father's legacy of patronage heads to an island run by a cloister of nuns only to uncover an increasingly disturbing link between her past and something ancient and evil.
Deeply atmospheric and bordering on surrealistic, this truly feels like an undiscovered gem overdue for reappraisal. The story resides somewhere between the structure of Lovecraft's The Shadow Over Innsmouth and the nightmare fugue logic of Lucio Fulci's The Beyond. Making the most out of its small budget and Ukrainian locations, the film is beautifully shot and displays some unique imagery. Minimalist in nature, Deep Waters does an impressive job of relaying an aura of cosmicism and a waking nightmare. Not for everyone but fans of these particular elements will be very delighted by what was achieved.
