Plot: A serial killer orchestrating a grand scheme becomes the focus of two detectives at very different stages in life.
An absolute masterpiece that, like Silence of the Lambs, becomes horror by proxy of its bleak and terrifying content. Beautifully written, shot, and cast, the film uses its production strengths to expound on its cynical (and, sadly, relatable) outlook with maximum effect. The film is a brutal (without ever being grotesque) portrait of a world rife with crushing lawlessness and immorality where apathy serves both the criminal element and their pursuers and only the thinnest of lines separates both.
