Movie Maniac added 1 item to Terror Blurbs! Part II (An Ever-Expanding List) list
Plot: A revenant walks the streets of Detroit, looking for vengeance under the guidance of an otherwordly crow.
Thought not strictly horror, The Crow is rife with shades of the supernatural, visual odes to German expressionism, and an unshakably bleak tone that make it feel right at home for any lover of the genre. A fairly loyal adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name, it not only serves as an early example of a good comic adaptation but also an iconic 90's film whose style has been openly replicated time and again. Most intriguing is that any ideas of a vengeful phantom pale as horror pale in comparison to the ironic tragedy behind the scenes of a story that was meant to purge the agony of death. Creatively speaking, the only major downside is that the movie doesn't breathe more, instead moving at a clip that robs some of the material of its intended impact. Still...a classic.
