Plot: An earthquake unleashes an ancient evil that consumes a mother and turns her against her own family for its own delight. The fifth cinematic entry into the Evil Dead franchise comes loaded with good concepts but a flimsy script that sputters to get beyond its trope heavy and generic delivery. Some elements shine while others are bland or groan-inducing. Still, a relatively strong heroine, some groovy lore and villains, and a solid third act heal most wounds. Lots of potential, tepid delivery, but I've seen worse.
