More of a reimagining of the first two Hellraiser movies than an outright remake or readaptation of the source material, this version cherry picks some of the more intriguing elements while elaborating on them with its own flourishes and style to create a very satisfactory product that both feels at home in the world of Hellraiser and yet feels unique. Add to that some stunning creature effects, intriguing tweaks to familiar concepts, nods to ideas seen in other Hellraiser media, an obvious respect for Clive Barker's style and themes, a sense of scope without losing the taboo vibe inherent in stories linked to this name, and a strong addiction metaphor and you have a solid package.
